Administrative Assistant : For Anti-racism and Anti-hate initiatives
About the Role:
The purpose of this role is to support the delivery of the BC anti-racism legislation and a community-informed response to racism and hate. As an Administrative Assistant, you will join a dedicated team of 2 part-time employees and 60+ volunteers. The Community Justice Centre (CJC) team is committed to learning together, being accountable to each other and our community, and supporting the well-being of team members (including having fun.) Your work will have a direct impact on the community we call home.

About The Comox Valley Community Justice Centre (CJC):
The Community Justice Centre is a volunteer-powered non-profit that uses restorative justice principles and practices to support peacemaking and the resolution of conflicts for the community. This is achieved through resolution conferences, dialogue, and education. For more information: www.communityjusticecentre.ca.
The ideal candidate does not need experience in all listed job tasks but should be passionate about social justice work, be innovative and willing to learn and adapt. Mentorship will be provided for the candidate who joins our workplace.
Job Tasks:
Support the delivery of awareness, education, and response to racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, and other forms of hate in the Comox Valley through a Restorative Justice (RJ) lens
Support collaboration with community partners
Develop and manage anti-racism resources and content for the website
Co-develop posters, slide decks, brochures, and other materials
Arrange and support community and volunteer education events
Develop workflow systems and forms
Support the organization of meetings for CJC's Racialized and Systematically Excluded Advisory Group
Assist with meeting scheduling, preparation, documentation, and note-taking for cases and community meetings
Conduct research, such as gathering information on anti-racism trainers in BC
Participate in the general operations of the Community Justice Centre.
Required:
Highly organized, with careful attention to detail
Passionate about collaborative work
Ability to work in Office 365, Canva, and Squarespace
Strong interpersonal skills
Vulnerable sector criminal record check
Ability to maintain confidentiality
A commitment to care for one's wellness
Excitement about and commitment to the organization's evolution
Bachelor's degree, diploma or experience in one (or more) of the following: Restorative justice, Racial justice, Social work, Decolonization, Communication, Trauma-informed practice, Community engagement, Event organization and/or Non-profit operations The CJC recognizes paid or unpaid work experience and foreign accreditation.
Preference will be given to candidates with:
Lived or living experience as a racialized or systematically excluded individual
Multilingual abilities
Experience with trauma-informed practice
Strong interpersonal skills
Demonstration of accountability, humility and teamwork

Position Overview
Type: This is a part-time (20 hours a week) term position until March 31, 2025. It is a pilot grant-funded role that, funding depending, could be extended and evolved
Ideal start date: July 1, 2024 or earlier
Location: Remote and in-office
Reporting: Reports to the Managing Director
Hours: Flexible, some constraints apply to meet the needs of the job
Wage: $25.50 to start
